CM surging- can it be controlled?

Post by spiff »

I'm hoping someone who's knowledgeable on CM's can help me.. so I ran through a few runs and I think I got this down.. I'm running separate coolant lines to the reflux stack and the condenser. With the separate coolant line to the reflux stack I'm able to totally control output and was keeping things from what I read is about right... a slow steady drip to a thin twisting stream. But every once in a while I'll get a sort of build up and then it'll pump out a lot at once. I don't think I have the stack over packed but maybe I do.. I have the first 14 inches filled with rings and the top I have 3 lightly rolled spools of copper. It seems like I never have to dial back the heat.. just full blast on my NG stove.. I'm thinking this is okay because at any point I can completely stop output by cranking up the reflux cooling so it never feels like I"m over heating. But I'm new to this so that might still be a possibility.

It only seems to surge on the hearts.. after that it smooths out and at one point I can completely turn off reflux cooling to maintain a slow drip. I still kept a tiny reflux coolant drip going because I was worried how hot the vinyl hose would get.. is that a concern too?

I appreciate any help..
