Note to self, lock up the cat while stilling, My story Funny

Post by iwine »

Yesterday I was running off a batch of rum. I was on my second batch. “Note to self, when your stilling put the cat away and lock them up.”

Now let me set this up for you. I have a pot and Thumper. I run 17 liters in my pot and 3 liters in my Thumper to get through a 40 liter molasses wash. After the first run i had put my 20 L of backset in a 23 l bucket. I had put a towel over the bucket to keep my pet hair's and bugs out of the bucket. I was going to put this into my dunder pit. I was done my second stilling and i was cleaning up when. My backset from the first batch had cooled to about 100 deg F.

If you now thinking, what can go wrong. NOT!!!! This is where things went way WRONG!!

I looked over to see my cat sitting on the chair. I saw her fuzzy little ass jump over to my towel covered backset bucket and go into the bucket head first. All I could do was stand there with my eyes wide open and my jaw dropped. She was literally covered 100% in molasses from head to tail. At this point she started to panic and was thrashing and trying to get out of the bucket. There was molasses going everywhere. She got out of the bucket at 200 MPH and ran through the living room flinging black molasses everywhere across our cream colored arm chair then across 2 other chairs then across my girlfriend sitting on the leather couch now covered in molasses. Then the cat went and hid behind the couch. Now at this point my girl friend comes out of the living room into the dining room covered in black stuff, madder than a wet hen, to see molasses literally everywhere. There was molasses on the ceiling, the chandelier, the walls, the drapes, the antique dining table, throughout the kitchen 12 feet away, the fireplace, the carpet. WOW what a fucking black oozing mess everything was dripping molasses. I could have set off a bomb in that bucket and I wouldn’t have made that big of a mess. Sorry but I didn’t take pictures.

Now we had to track down the cat hiding behind the couch and give her a bath before she made things worse. When we found the cat she looked like a black drowned rat dripping molasses, as my girlfriend was carrying her to the bathroom to wash her. It took us about 15 minutes to wash a thrashing panicked cat with sharp claws that hates water. The rest of the house took just under 3 hours to clean.

After my girl friend had cleaned herself up, she was still mad. We were on our knees wiping up the floor I looked at her and couldn’t help myself I started laughing so hard I thought I was going to piss myself. initially she couldn't see what was so funny then she started laughing. I must say what else can it be, but funny.

The truth is Stranger Than Fiction

When thing go wrong they go wrong. Damn Murphy's Law.

All I can say is be careful in this hobby because if it can go wrong it will.

“Note to self, use the proper hard lids on your buckets”

P.S no animals were hurt in the making of this video.

Had a similar incident that involved mixing dry molasses in a hot sweet feed wash with a drywall mixer chucked into a 3/4" drill with a touchy speed control in a 5 gal bucket . Didn't have a good outcome .

What a story..
I bet you have to come up with something, to get the misses good again.
My accident was some less dramatic.
I had a ferment going on in a 10L wine balloon. A cork stopper was in with a silicone hose, that went into a small bucket with water (my airlock for several batches at the time).
As I was moving it, my hand slipped and it fell to the ground...
It didn't immediately break, but as it tumbled onto the side, the neck went clean off and the ferment started to shoot out of the damned thing (fresh ferment from the same day, so lots of CO2 action).
Lucky for me, it was in the basement..but I can tell you both wall and ceiling was plastered with ferment...damned..!
No pets were harmed in the incident...well..I might have shot a spider or two..

One afternoon my wife and I decided to paint the kitchen. The floor guys just finished sanding our brand new Cherrywood flooring, (through out the entire downstairs ) all of a sudden the cat decided to jump into a paint tray full full of peach color paint. My wife and I look with amazement she just sat down like it was her bed. Lol. Soon as my wife said LUNA (short for lunatic) GONE SHE WAS!!!! out the kitchen, down the hall and across every damn floor in the entire house. The floor guys were laughing hysterically while we were chasing this fat ass cat who's stomach swings like a pendulum with long hair around the house. Not only was she covered in paint as we chased her we were also stepping in it! Damn!!! The floor guys were cool and didn't charge us as they helped clean up the mess. It was water based so clean up was long but simple with water. Took about 3 days before we could have the sealer put on the floors. I miss that crazy bitch cat. No I didn't kill her. Lol she passed a couple years later.

I do all my cooking n stuff on the back porch, finally got the wash down to pitching temps. Went into get yeast, didn't cover fermenter, after all I was going to be right back. Wifey makes an order to make some tea, being right back turned into 10 minutes, come back out and not 1, but 2, of our cats are lapping up the wash with their grubby little paws perched on the bucket.
So it is confirmed, cats do like Rads All Bran!
Only the cats feelings were hurt! I promise.
Before you ask, yes I did ferment and run with no problems or infections.
Now I have 3 quarts labeled "Pussy Licker"

Up date on the home front. 6 days later we are still finding molasses in strange places. :wtf: And yes my testis are still attached. they may not be in there original location though.

I love these stories. You have to be able to laugh at your self and situations once in a while. Life is to short.
Now I have 3 quarts labeled "Pussy Licker"

I think i might do the same and have to come up with a label to remember this experience. Not like i will forget.

Oh ya I for got to mention. The shampoo that we used was my better half's shampoo, it smells like pepper mint. our cat still smells minty fresh.

p.s. label "wet pussy rum"

Damn good story iwine. SOH and I had a good laugh reading it to her. She fully understands these things. Was mixing my sebstar into my SMOP one day with paint mixer on a drill. Somehow lost balance momentarily and fell a little backwards pulling the mixer up from the button while squeezing the drill trigger . . . man that stuff can fly! Ceiling, fridge, stove, counter, microwave, floor . . . dog (who enjoyed licking herself clean). It all happens in a flash.

I also have a pic somewhere on the forum of what ten pounds of grain looks like when your mill jams and breaks free of it's base, flinging it about the shed. Ten pounds doesn't look like much in the hopper. Spread across a shed floor, it looks more like 200 pounds. It was fall when this happened. I used a shop vac and cleaned it up. Due to school, didn't get back to much in shed til i was done. Went to clean up some styro a mouse had chewed up. It just kept blowing out the other end of shop vac and was "snowing" in my shed. So i pull the top off and go to change the filter. Big ol' hole. And in the bottom of my shop vac, one BIG FAT DEAD MOUSE. Crawled up the hose and chewed its way through, but couldn't get back out, so ate itself to death. Now i remember to empty my shop vac (all other grains stored in bags in metal garbage cans).

:esurprised:

Ya I know what what you mean. my bucket was almost full. After the cat was done only half was left. I thought that she emptied the bucket. :esurprised: It sure seemed like a lot more.

It seems like an efficient way to repaint your house: fill a bucket with paint and let the cat go!

I think I prefer the second label.
