rum

Post by trickster »

sup everyone, i am not a distiller(not yet) however, i love rum my favorite being Barrilito 3 star, if no one has had it i highly recommend it. anyhow i am looking to age my own rum. looking to by a small barrel purchase a clean tasting white rum, and flavor it in a barrel., medium toast pre-soaked with a mixture of 2 other spirits. i am looking to find a sugar maple barrel. i cant seem to find one. i have contacted some coopers to see if they can or would make one, anyone know of any please let me know. So i had another idea, black swan makes their oak alternative honeycombs with sugar maple. i understand there are multiple factors involved in barrel aging. which led me to consider quart mason jars with a the honey comb inside, now it seems unanimous that Breathing is an import factor that in the aging processes that a glass mason jar simply cant do. now it may bot be an original idea but i have yet to see anyone mention it. replace the lid insert with a wood one. would this actually work, input greatly appreciated.

Hi, welcome in!
lots of good build threads here to help you get the equipment organized for a great rum still.
the wood jar lids has been done, a member Corene1 has made some very nice lids. Pe3rhaps she will see the thread and give an update on the long term effects or a link.
you can always search for her posts by using the google search function at the top of page, just leave a space and type in what you want to find.
good luck, enjoy
I finally quit drinking for good.

now i drink for evil.

Dominoes are a very good solution.

Transfer by pouring into a new vessel every so often helps to expose the spirit to air. Then leave your glass vessel with some head space .
Trample the injured and hurdle the dead.

I think that's fairly standard procedure for white rum in the Commercial distilling industry. As far as I know white Bacardi is made that way.
