Seems there has been lot of Dimroth PC builds lately.

Lots of ways to implement one of those.

I had not considered a dimroth...but the cooling water could flow through a double helix coil of 1/2" tubing..
Then what size would the jacket needo to be as far as diameter and length...Also, what size inlet and outlet to the jacket to ensure the vapor has enough time in contact with the cooling coil?
I'm gonna invest in stocks and bonds. Lace stockings and "un"Bonded Whiskey.

I think, if you use two condensers, the second one can be thinner without causing overpressure, because much of the vapor is condensed yet.
You are correct Der Wo, I was confusing graham and dimroth. I would like to change my answers to be more in line with Der Wo. If you want a graham (coil inside water jacket), use bigger or multiple tubes, then reduce but a shotgun would be easier. I would actually recommend a dimroth, with the water running inside the coil inside the 4" section then reduce. Sorry I got confused and caused confusion.

How would I calculate size on a dimroth?

Yes, Cranky, you have a Dimroth condenser as I do on my newest setup and my giant Dimroth on Lulu the stripping machine I built.

A graham is basically a worm. I don't see the point in two different ones. Check out the dimroth I have on this one. It knocks down both elements at full boil. A wash will foam and puke before you can hit it with that much heat though.

Hound dog...great pics...but they don't tell me how to size one for my setup.

At the risk of screwing the whole thing up again I will say considering you still want to go with the additional liebig, pretty much any length you want to use will be good. My dimroth dephleg in my flute is 48" of 1/2" CSST as my coil in a 3" diam that is 7 inches long and it can knock down everything the 5500W can do. I doubled that for the product condenser for a total of 96" coiled 3" diam and 14" long. but that is because I am not planning on using additional cooling via a liebig. So I guess what I'm saying is also close to Der Wo's figure at around 100" although I think that is really overkill.

Was that rambling helpful? Damn I need a drink

Well I just took a drink of some of my peach sour mash split brandy to help me understand. So we are all good.

I'd be careful, drinking some of Bubba's brandy, caused me to post info that was wrong.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Yea, don't know what to tell you. That is a three foot section of 2" pipe. I can't remember how many feet of CSST is in the coil. It knocks everything out no matter what but the distillate is still hot coming out.

Looking at that PC, I'm a little surprised it doesn't knock some of the water out of the air too (on humid days). But, if the product comes out warm, it probably won't. If it came out cool, closer to the water inlet temperature, you might get some water condensation inside the Dimroth as well.

Nice rig.

"It knocks everything out no matter what but the distillate is still hot coming out"

Good evening everyone. Hope all is well. I was reading the post. I would like to ask. How does one cool down the distillate from that 46" condenser?

I have a 18" shotgun condenser that sits vertically but the distillate comes out at 28°C and I want it to be closer to 20°C. I am also looking to build a Graham condenser to cool down the liquid. The 18" shotgun condenser is used with a 5KW gas burner.

Currently my condenser has 6 x 10mm tubes 18" long. This works with the 5KW gas burner. But I need to cool down the liquid.

If there is another plan to make to cool down the distillate please don't hesitate to mention it here. I also would like to learn.

Maybe cooling down the parrot would be better? Having a bigger tube around the parrot and running cool water through that.

I don't know.
