Oh no you are all saying, not another stripping run question haha.

So, I built my own reflux still - 55L keg and over 1m high column. I have tried several practice runs etc.

I am currently in the process of building a pot still h ead to make gin easier for example.

I have tried finding links on my question but I've no luck. I see replies with what to do but not why. What I want to know is why do you remove packing from a reflux still, when 95% alcohol can be watered down to 40% anyway? Is it speed of the run or something, which will help later?

It just seems strange removing packing
