Case against jar cuts

Post by spiff »

I'm starting to notice a slight white residue on the bottom of my vodka storage containers once they sat for a couple weeks. Its a very slight layer but any contamination is disconcerting. I'm pretty sure its coming from the use of mason jars for making cuts even though I rinse them thoroughly and wipe them out with a clean dish towel right before using them. And I know its not the addition of water because it happens on my main storage carboys that I haven't diluted yet. It doesn't happen on product from stripping runs where the whole run goes straight into the carboy. So the only common denominator is the jars. I'm guessing it must be detergent residue which ain't cool.

So its got me fast tracking to doing cuts on the fly to avoid jars. Has anyone ran into this and had a solution? I can't see cleaning these jars any better before use... they're spotless.
