Just saw my number one tonight live . . . The Cult . . . front row. As well today Tom Keifer from Cinderella, Helix, Trews, 54-40 . . . but nothing topped the closing act of The Cult.

Watching a concert at Billybobs, one of the last that Merle Haggered did. The one line that has always stood out to me.....
" I turned twenty one in prison doing life without parole". Why can't anybody write like that anymore?

+1 on that Bigbob. That's why 90% of what I listen to is old school, the music nowadays is all about how much money, houses, cars, trucks and bling can I aquire. Has no soul and feeling to it imho.Bigbob wrote:Watching a concert at Billybobs, one of the last that Merle Haggered did. The one line that has always stood out to me.....

Way I see it good songs are still writ and always were, empathy it what makes them great. If the consumer has empathy for greed gluttony and gain then sadly that is what will get airplay. It seems to me the best writers of pain first bled, Clapton's song of loss could only be wrote so honestly by a soul tortured by loss and songs of hope of love by one who's faith was tested
Just my 2 cents

My band plays Mama Tried, Big River, all kinds of good old "story" songs.
We only played one wedding ever, at the request of the groom. We play d Mama Tried, but we opened with "Me and My Uncle," which is great for a family gathering. Especially the last two lines, where the narrator takes his uncle's money, and "left his dead ass there by the side of the road."

We got to talking about these last Johnny Cash albums at TruckinButch's this weekend.
This may have already been posted here, but if not I wanted to put it up. One of my all time favorite songs.

Re: whats your music
I just lost a good friend, learnt some life lessons from him. He led a hard and interesting life and had been a hard and interesting man. Liked most of my shine but gave me honest answers. I did meet and stay with one older fella in the US that reminded me of him a whole lot, reckon you two would swapped some yarns. Anyway my old friend got Parkinson's desease it made him appear drunks some days. Some of the punks in my home town would get smart with him yet 10 years maybe 5 would never had dared, that makes them very small to me. Was going to post this on the bench but seeing as I want too share this song my old mate liked I thought maybe here. He reckoned this song was a bit like he had got, reckon ya might have been right too Briggsy

Sorry to hear about your friend. I bet he comes rolling into heaven all beat up, dusty and dirty with a bag full of great stories and memories.

IRON BUTTERFLY -IN A GADDA DA VIDA - 1968
This brings back some memories. I listened to this 17 minute track (one whole side of an LP) many, many times after school, back in 1969. My sister bought the album – not me. But if I was the first one back to the house then I could turn up the stereo until the living room windows vibrated dangerously.
I was especially fond of the drum solo [between about 6:30 and 9:15 – then the organ joins the drums between 9:15 and 12:30].
It doesn’t sound quite as impressive today because I've changed. That and the fact that the video in this Youtube is primitive and distracting. Just like “The House of The Rising Sun” following this one on the Youtube web page – would sound better if one didn't have to look at the “Animals”...
