smells bad? first run

Post by floppy »

this was my firs run ever after cleaning the still i built

cleaning processes i used 1 water steam run 1 vinegar steam run water again and a good rinse then cheap boxed wine the distillate smelled awesome from the wine very fruity sweet smelling rinsed with water after the box wine

tried to run what i thought would be rum like it was 10# dark brown sugar 1 litre molasses in a 5 gallon carboy i started fermenting it close to 3 weeks ago with some wine yeast it fermented slow was still bulbing today before the run

? none of it smells nice to me all of it had a hard taste? i ran it very slow in a pot type still so slow that if the breeze came in and over the still the stream would slow to drops. i collected into 4 oz jars (110-47) proof took 8 oz out as for-shots (130 proof) i documented proof for each jar from 1-23 i have it aring out now in hopes it changes but it smells more like cheap vodka or tequlia

should i call this another cleaning run? it tasted nothing like the wash really im going to decide my wash was bad?
