VM 3" Column

Post by thepatchworkdoll »

Hi Guys
Been running a 2" VM Proportional Splitting Head still for quite a few years now and have decided to upgrade to a 3" column to speed runs up a bit. Question for the more experienced 3" column owners. Whats the optimum height using SPP as a filler and how much heat and speed do any of you run it at. Any advice really appreciated.
Regards

Hi Guys
I thought I would throw this up again as no responses whatsoever to my last attempt. I appreciate that there may not be many who have a 3" column running with SPP but would have hoped that at least a few out there might have. Any advice, offers or suggestions would be very much appreciated.
regards

This is my very limited experience with a 3" CCVM running lava rock

I decided to try lava rock before popping for the SPP. Havent made a drop of drinkable yet with it but the cleaning and sac runs have been very promising.

I think a 3" CCVM is the new de facto standard for neutral spirits.

It's a long way from drops per second out of a 2" boka.

I jumped from 2" to 4" so can't help on 3". I could push 1/4 - 1/3gallon per hr for the first few hrs from low wines with SPP over a bubble ball on a 2". My 4" is a gallon per hr at just over 4000 watts. I was between 1500-1800 on the 2". I would expect a 3" to be 1/2 to 3/4 gal/hr depending on height and 3000-3500w.

According to a Polish SPP seller...
http://pracowniametaloplastyczna.pl/en/my-spp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
...is the SPP optimized for between 1.5 and 4kW. It's the same measurements as Odins old SPP. 4.4 x 5.5mm and 0.24 mm ss wire. For more wattage larger SPP would be better.

3" are ID 7.62cm.

So 4.8kW is the maximum wattage.

I would use 4kW.
