Copper speaker cable wire as packing??

I have about 20 metres of speaker cable that I've pulled out of my house - I'm now running bluetooth. It's thick, expensive, good quality stuff. Has anyone ever tried removing the copper core and using it for packing a column?? Is it always pure copper, or can it sometimes contain other nasties?

Bushman has a thread describing using stranded copper wire as SPP. Good news...speaker wire is (typically) pure copper.

Sorry to go off topic but isn't going from high quality copper wire to blue tooth a step backwards in sound quality??

if it's pure copper it will be printed on the jacket (get more money for it). even pure copper wire sometimes has varnish on it. scratch with a knife you'll know right away.
i'd still clean it with vinegar and then with alcohol before using.

Probably cuz they grew up listening to mp3's played through a 2" surround sound speaker, I would bet. It's a damn shame, really.

Yes there is probably a light oil film thus I gave mine an acid bath prior to cleaning. This also etches the wire which should help performance.

Well, some people seem to believe that green electricity causes growth of a green film on the inside of your cables. Algae or things like that, and this will clog the lines, so your current stops.
