Re: A new youtube channel for distilling ?
Jes,
Just discovered your channel! I have watched several of your videos. You are really doing a great job documenting your journey into the "dark side", hehehe. Seriously, thank you for doing it right! Your posts are both informative and yet your joy of discovery shines through!
I am really looking forward to seeing your first taste of a Jes Crafted Dram.
Keep up your good work, Brother!
I am going to have to go back and check out all you posts from the beginning to get fully up to speed.
You have a new fan in West Virginia, USA.
Just Sayin'

Time to strip
Re: A new youtube channel for distilling ?
Spirit run, and an overview of reflux for new distillers.
Let me know what I missed and what I screwed up
Re: A new youtube channel for distilling ?
Would be interested to know the ABV of each jar you collected, but I'm guessing that would be in a seperate video on cuts.
Once you figure out whether you are happy with your process, would be interesting to see how you packed the column. Things like how tightly you rolled or bundled the copper mesh, if you put in anything at the bottom to keep it from falling, post-run cleaning or rinsing...ect
Haven't run a still in reflux so I can't offer much comment on how you did it.

Ok im going to write those down dude. Things that people that have not run reflux with packing would likely want to know!
Yup, next week But honestly every jar up untill the tails started was pretty much exactly the same. I got a little fluctuation, but I think MOSTLY that was me messing with stuff. I did, however, get a fairly large fluctuation in the quality during the run . . . . but thats next week hahaha

Could tell you were riding high on that feeling of a plan all coming together. If only someone could bottle that feeling, nothing better, though a good homemade spirit is good too.

Jes
I have been keeping an eye on you from afar and haven't chimed in much as the others have it covered.
now that you have some shine, You need to start making things, I would like to send you some Things I like to use for infusions (well macerations technically) common infusion items that are easy and fantastic for beginners to try. all you need is a little patience.
But i'm sure you have learnt by now, in this hobby, there's alot of waiting.
Also a video on you smelling and tasting every fraction so we can see your face when you first sniff and taste the very early heads (i think everyone remembers their first time) and how bad the tails are, also a good way to learn how to where in the run you are, by a simple dip of the finger!!!
PM me and i'l hook a brother up!!
Keep up the good work, you are doing well.

Thanks man! That would be awesome. So far I have done a limoncello and a little wood ageing on this FFV. Both turned out really well (although the wood is just getting better). So any advice on what else to try would be sweet!
Funny you mention that video . . . . hahaha Although I didn't do so much of reactions in it.

good, and remember: all those items have different infusion times, some short, some longer
Figured it would keep ya busy.

Yup, you obviously put some thought into that didn't you! Seems like a pretty good range of things in terms of flavours and time/technique!pounsfos wrote:good, and remember: all those items have different infusion times, some short, some longer
