Hello From IL Cornfields

Post by grainfarmer »

I am in my mid 50's and farm in Illinois. My Dad hauled shine as a young man in south Kentucky - North Tennessee before moving to Illinois looking for factory work back in the 1950's. I want to keep tradition of southern roots alive and have been trying to figure out how to do that. My Dad made homemade wine and I would like to build on that and keep that moonshine connection. Have been trying to research what kind of still to build or purchase and decided to attempt to join this group for connections, advice and sharing of info. Dad is 88 and want to maybe trigger his memories with my own still.

Welcome to the Forum. Best place to start is in the New Distiller Reading Lounge. Specific questions can more readily be answered using the HD Google search option. Click on it then space and phrase your question. You will be surprised at the amount of information here. Good luck.!
When I was a boy, I prayed for a bicycle. I soon learned G~d doesn't work like this so I stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness.

Welcome grainfarmer. There's a wealth of information here. There's plenty of styles of stills to choose from here. Read and study all you can, be patient and most of all be safe. This is a very rewarding hobby, be it for sentiment or imbibement

Welcome aboard, time to put that corn to work!
I'd guess you probably want to start with a pot still, and uncle jessie's simple sour mash. Do your reading, its all here, and we love to help if any questions come up.
