Back again

Hey all, not really new but I haven't been active here in over 4 years, so I figure I should reintroduce myself. I'm a 27 year old male from "Da UP, eh". Still an avid angler (not looking to go pro anymore though). Since then I shifted my focus to the art and science of distillation. And by that I mean I focused almost solely on it in most of my free time.

I do own a couple small stills and have helped friends build small pot stills, however I'm not willing to admit if they have or have not been used in an open forum on the Internet because I do really enjoy not being in prison lmao.

My first build 4 years ago is just a very simple 7.5 gallon turkey fryer pot with a 1/2"x20' copper pipe into a 5 gallon cooling bucket. Yes, it's ugly.

The most recent is a SS keg with a 2"x3' SS reflux column with copper packing. The keg has a 6" SS ferrule welded into the top with a concentric reducer down to 2". Went electric with it and used a 240v 5500w low density fold back style heating element (uncontrolled), and a 110v 1500w high density element on a 4000 watt controller. Cooling is a 55 gallon drum and radiator with a 1000 gph pump to circulate water. Looking to add an in line sight glass and another bubbler plate or 2 to it in the near future.

And I'm working on a 200 gallon electric steam kettle build, but I haven't quite decided how I want to do it. I have faith that I'll find some good arguments for or against certain builds here.

I will gladly help where I can, and I hope to learn even more by being more active in the forums. Glad to be back!

Nice to meet you too. I assume tapa is tapatalk, but what's an advo and how do I turn it off?

I don't know what's more addictive. Fishing or distilling.

welcome back in fella.
sounds like you got the building bug more than the stilling bug, I too prefer to build over stilling.

might want to keep that 200g boiler on the down low, 30g is whats allowed here, anything bigger you might want to keep it to yourself.

looking forward to see some pics of your plater build

Good question. I'm going to apply for research grant to figure it out. For science of course lol

Well, yes and no. I do enjoy building quite a bit. It's a good feeling creating something, especially when you hear that your hard work does exactly what it was built to do.

But the truth is I'm not particularly keen on admitting anything potentially incriminating in an open forum on the Internet just yet. I know I'll get more comfortable with it eventually. I can say that I'm not a stranger to the art and science behind how they work though.

Thank you for letting me know! I was looking for general rules somewhere stating size limitations (I assumed there was anyway), so I didn't want to go too far into it until I knew for sure.

And "they" claim global warming *insert eye roll here*

Just kidding, I understand how it works.

I'd be back down there in a heartbeat if I could. I don't know why I still live where the air hurts lmao

I actually never took any pics of them since I didn't really have that many people to share them with before now. I'll take some real quick though
