Anyone familiar with se okla.
I have a chance to buy a bit of land in the kiamichi mountains north of antlers okla. And was wondering what anyone familiar with the area thought. The price and terms are right and me and the wife are splitting up and its close enough to be able to drive back and forth for the kids. It'll be off grid and a working homestead. Just want an overview of the area.

That’s funny, I just got a place myself outside of Heavener. We will be neighbors!

I’ve been looking a lot online for information. My son lives out there, lots of nice people for sure.

The property 3 acres on top of a mountain, the side of it and five acres of flat but timbered land for a total of 15 acres of land. A wet weather creek and small spring. Seems like it'll be perfect for me. Going to put a cabin and well and some goat and pig pens and have to do something about power. Maybe wind or solar or both. Probably hire a dirt co to dig a pond also.
Trying to aim for self sufficient.
It shows 99 miles apart but I'll be closer to the halfway point so maybe 30 or 45 minute drive.

Re: Anyone familiar with se okla.
Pretty rough country over there. Usually good water though. Lots of game, and you can see the stars. Hard to make a living in that area unless you work in the timber industry. The smell of the paper mill will grow on you, especially when you can relate good memories with it. Good folk, but they don't take to strangers unless you have friends that are from there already. Just from reading your posts throughout the years seems like you'll probably be alright. Nice place to retire to once you've made your living. Enjoy.

Ok! It’s official! I now own 80 acres in SE Oklahoma! As I’m still working in California, this will be a vacation/hunting property until I retire, hopefully this fall. Looking forward!!

Well it’s been awhile since I’ve joined in. I have checked in quite regularly, just not logging in. The property is progressing, old house torn down, new house still in planning stage. Coming out to visit next Wednesday thru the weekend, anybody in the area that might want to meet up?

So it looks like we’re gonna lose another good one from California. I get it Bob. If my roots weren’t so deep here in Cali I might just go to where life is a little slower and the price of everything isn’t so high.
Hope your doing well.

Doing great! As to roots, my family has been in San Francisco since the gold rush. I cannot live here anymore. This state has been hijacked by crazies. Without getting too political I’ll leave it at that. I’m looking forward to 4 season weather, and having a fair amount of land to call my own!!

Re: Anyone familiar with se okla.
I grew up in kind of S.E. OK. If you ever drive between mile marker 200 and 220 on I-40 you will see the area. I was born in California and, like you Big Bob, one day he just couldn't take LA anymore and he bought the farm...in Oklahoma that is. So we moved out to the country. It was a good place to grow up and some of my family is still there. I never intend to go back. I don't ever want to live where there are 4 seasons ever again because I remember those, too hot, too cold, too muddy, and flowers. We only get two here Too wet and too dry but we never get too hot or too cold.
Re: Anyone familiar with se okla.
Thought I give an update, I’ve been out to the property two times now. Every time I go I don’t want to come back. I went out in February and it was 25*, then I went out in July and it was 107! So I think I’ve seen the extremes. I’m really looking forward to moving out there! The contractor has the plans for the house and I’m waiting on his bid, hopefully we’ll be out there next September. I was planning to retire in June, but my wife can’t leave her work until September so I might as well keep working. I was going to post some pictures but my resizeing app doesn’t seem to be working. I’ll try to get that fixed.
