I know first hand CO2 will knock you out. Went on an late nite service call at a very large supermarket. Frozen food in high temp alarm rack down. Drove an hour to get to the store pulled tools from the truck started the leak detector at the truck to warm up and it was screaming at the entry. I knew it was a big refrigerant leak so I ran to the FF section and opened the ice cream door at the start of the isle stuck my head in to listen for a hissin leak next thing I know two guys had dragged me back to lean up at the bake shop.
Store nite manager was a rookie and called for a dry ice delivery while I was driving to the store. Knocked me the hell out fast. Had no clue what happened at the time. CO2 is a tough gas.

do you suppose this statement has any validity?

"The food-grade-level molasses most likely started to ferment because it was sitting in or was exposed to freezing temperatures, authorities said."

Freezeing temps probably expanded the liquid and popped the container and exposed to wild yeast transit back to a warmer climate.

I’ve found that fermentation - on (rare!) ocassion - has caused me to pass out. Same for distillation ;)

Cheers!

If your going to be around it for that long you need to either contain it in a fermenting cart/room or vent I would think.
