hello!! from New england

Post by PartySmasher »

Hello all,
I started stilling back in 2007-ish i think, i was helping an old-timer out for fun and to learn how to do it. worked with him for a couple years then moved away got a fance job, had some kids, yadda yadda yadda...a few years later i took up interest again, i think it was seeing that stupid show and realized how much i missed it, (and how that show gave it a bad name).. i spent some time putting together a 30 gal pot still. it may be over your limit but my options were either a 13 gal beer keg, 30 or 55 gal SS drum. i was used to the bigger pots that i worked with before and went with the 30 (i couldnt afford the 55) it has a nice 10 gal thumper and copper pipping. but i digress.

after building the still with the help of a friend, i got some rum going and and a sacrificial batch for cleaning. cleaned it up good. ran the rum, and it came out ok. just a basic batch to see how the thing ran.

to make a short story longer the day after i made the run we got news of my wifes (at the time) family issues and we had to pack up and move , almost instantly. kids and all... i didnt get to even test and blend my cuts. things were so up in the air that i just packed the still up in a storage container, and thew everything away.

Now im at a new point high point in my life. i have the space and time to get back in it. and my friends that both taught me and helped me build my rig have now both passed, i thought its time to pull the old out of its cave and get back at it.

once i get it out and cleaned up ill show ya some pics. its a hell of thing when you have a pipe-fitter friend helping plumb a still

cheers
S
