Cherry fermenting
Ok got a question I have 10 gallons of cherry shine fermenting it’s been four day since I put it all together. It started off with good bubbles in the airlock. Now the airlock is not bubbling at all. When I put my ear up to the barrel I hear small bubbles popping. Should I add more sugar? I put 25 lbs in to start with plus yeast nutritious. Or more yeast? I put 20 grams of dady dry yeast. Or just let it sit in the room at 74 degrees? I have done corn and sweet feed and never ran into this before. Could I just have a air leak?

Air locks are notorious for leaking, just because its not bubbling doesn't mean its not fermenting.Country boy wrote:ow the airlock is not bubbling at all.
Take the lid off and have a close look, if you can see lots of small bubbles fizzing away on the surface it working fine.Country boy wrote:When I put my ear up to the barrel I hear small bubbles popping.
While you have the lid of stick your ear close to the surface of the wash , you should also hear it fizzing.
Re: Cherry fermenting
What was the original gravity? What is the gravity now? Knowing both will tell you the % alcohol in your wash. You might be done. Won’t know unless we have those numbers.
Re: Cherry fermenting
All good advice also sometimes your fermenting vessel does not have a good seal which will cause the airlock to not show any action. Can you give us a more detailed recipe that you used?

Ok thanks guys I’ll get the gravity of it. Been trying to figure out how to do that. I used 30 pounds of cherries and four cans of cherries. 25 pounds of sugar and topped it off with water plus two pounds of raisin. Made a watermelon one like that last year turned out great just had a yeast taste I’m thinking do to bread yeast I used.

Re: Cherry fermenting
Too late to do gravitynow - 25 lb sugar in 10 gallons (US?) will be unlikely to ferment dry so the nearer you get to 1.000 the better your processhas been proven to be.
