Tennessee Thumper Stills
These guys make stills with mason jar thumpers, and 3 times the copper pipe they really need.
Facebook appears to be plastered with pictures like this:
No... just.... no. It's not worth the risk.

Just as the moonshine trade influenced stock car racing and eventually NASCAR,
this seems like "who can go bigger and most daring."
Most outrageous design, yet still functional, seems to pervade all hobbies.
Like those Guarachero boots.

Maybe not very efficient, but if one practices a bit, I bet you can make shows on them.

Hey I never said they didn't look cool. And like moths to a flame, the newbie distillers all seem to want to know how much they are.Kareltje wrote:I think they are beautiful! Well, at least you didn't call us "Yanks" in that thread.

Re: Tennessee Thumper Stills
Right, we 'Yanks' would not think of sucking on a fag or getting 'pissed' in a bar for gear of getting beat up or thrown out. Though I might have pissed meself in a bar once way back...Bamaberry wrote:Am I on the right forum here?!?!?chickenfeed wrote:we know what he means.Mikey-moo wrote:Yummyrum wrote: Can imagine the look on o'l mates face when a jar cracks while he's sucking on his Fag .

Interesting contraption if not way over the top. Might have originated in Texas where everything is bigger. My 10 gallon pot would probably be empty before everything filled up and started snorting.

Re: Tennessee Thumper Stills
Im from Tennessee and ive never seen a contraption like that or even heard of one. Using mason jars in whatever that "system" is speaks volumes about the creators doesnt it.
No idea about sucking fags or getting pissed in a bar but what i do know is this. In Appalachia you WILL take a beating for talking like that to people. Maybe us Tennessee hillbillys just arent as tolerent as the rest of the world.

Me and the builder have agreed to dis agree bout them stills. He's sent me videos of them running and one micro distillery uses them.
I still don't trust them...

Re: Tennessee Thumper Stills
It's a cool design, but ditch the mason jars and go with an approved material. I actually want to try something like this one day if I ever get around to it.

Ok folks, Rick the owner is a great guy......... Has yet to have a mason jar fail as you know, they ARE made to be heated up (Canning). Not to mention they are tried and true at getting the highest proof possible out of the first run and not needing to do a stripping run because of the 4+ thump kegs that are built into the setup, not to mention infusing the products....... you couldn't ask for a better way possible. I was going to buy one and even paid deposit, shit come up on my end and had to forfeit money I paid for it but I would always vouch for rick and his products and if someone bad mouths them then you're ignorant to the product!!
Re: Tennessee Thumper Stills
I don't think anyone's bashing the Stills per se I think they're just saying that it's not an approved material. Many people use mason jars another glass vessels as Thumpers without much issue but rules were set on this forum a long time ago that we would not promote certain materials for building, that's all.Shawnr0517 wrote:Ok folks, Rick the owner is a great guy......... Re: Tennessee Thumper Stills
even taking the glass out of the equation, it's a poor design at best, a shit load of heavy copper that don't need to be there.Shawnr0517 wrote:Ok folks, Rick the owner is a great guy......... I could build better with a few saladbowls...

Re: Tennessee Thumper Stills
These jars are made for canning - true... but with canning the pressure is on the outside pushing in (at least until the temperature inside the jar reaches canning temp). Yes they are designed to take that pressure difference. Using them as a thumper, the pressure is on the inside pushing out, exactly where it's NOT designed to be, and because they're soda glass and not pyrex then it would be far too easy for a cooling line to come loose, spray a jar with cold water, and have thermal shock cause a crack or worse a shatter.Shawnr0517 wrote:Has yet to have a mason jar fail as you know, they ARE made to be heated up (Canning).
You say he's not had one fail to date. I genuinely hope that's true and for safety's sake I hope that remains true. But if it wasn't true, it would not be in his best interest to say so would it?
You can get the exact same results using proven safe materials - stainless or copper. The only difference being that they might not look as cool while running.
When you start rating aesthetics higher than safety, that's when I'll start disagreeing with you.

To each there own..
Re: Tennessee Thumper Stills
"Highest proof"??
Not without forced reflux.
Can push to about 87, but won't last for the duration of the run.

The clever part about those stills is the design of them. Designed especially to part newbies and fools from their money.

Re: Tennessee Thumper Stills
replace all that glass with stainless and there is no value in that system. It becomes an overly complex, overly expensive major time suck. OtisSunshineer wrote:Replace all that glass with stainless steel Mason Jars end of glass problem.
