electric jar swapper

Post by shadylane »

Some body needs to experiment with building an "electric jar swapper"
Here's the timer I've ordered

And I'm thinking about ordering this for the jar rotator

Does this mean you intend to walk away from the still for more than just a minute? (which I hesitate to admit to having done....)

Ha shady . I get were you are coming from .
I've spend hours watching and changing those jars ......its good thinking time .

Have to admit to dreaming about this too . My dream was not to rotate the jars but to rotate the spout from jar to jar with a servo motor run off a Picaxe , LOL , guess Audrinos are more popular these days . anyways , I imagined a device to measure collection rate that filled a container with about 50mls then switched over to another , then back again .
Flow rate.jpg
Knowing how much was being collected , I'd direct the spout to say put 100mls in the fores jar then start filling the heads jars with say 300 mls each then once in guaranteed hearts , fill a larger jar for a while before switching back to smaller jars towards tails . Thought the servo / controller could log the position of each jar and turn the spout accordingly . :eugeek:

Do I endorse automated collection ? ....No Bloody way in hell ....there is way to many layers of shit to go wrong .

Do I endorse creativity and sitting watching your machine do its thing while standing by to sort out the inevitable F@#@Kup ....Hell Yeah

Go for it shady

Instead of a timed controller you need a remote control like on your TV set!

bigger batches, bigger collection vessels. if you do the same recipe and a good mash... cuts on the fly are easier. thqt way you only got to make two jar swaps. (and a wee fores cut)
I finally quit drinking for good.

now i drink for evil.

These things exist on the laboratory scale, often for chromatography as much as distillation, and having miniscule collection sizes. I've looked at them several times and thought about a larger version, can't be too hard.

I'd consider it more of a safety than a dependable feature, I'd still keep an eye on the still, but even doing that sometimes you just get hypnotized and are a little late on the swap. :(

 I'm serious, just waiting on the delivery truck.
On a side note, I live so far out in the sticks.
I have to order something, just so the old dog gets to bark at the fedex truck

This courtesy Riku’s book....

(Build this into a mason jar cap)
Make one to overflow into second jar, or make a bunch to fill a bunch of jars automatically.

Obviously, large mouth jars will be needed and a cake pan to contain spillage
