Hey Duckhunter, I see no one has answered this post, so I gotta ask:
What does mills mean in this regard? Searching only brings up grain mills.

Stab in the dark: From a 29l charge of 35% low wines (AG bourbon), I kept 9l. It all depends on how your original ferment went, but folks report 35%-40% keep on their low wines. Some like to just keep hearts. I like the flavor that come from deep tails.

Hi Duckhunter. First off, love the name. Duck tastes good!

The short answer to your question is “Math”.

Total Yeild of what you collect: You will need to know the ABV of your low wines+feints mix, in addition the volume, in order to calculate yield. You will also need to know what average ABV your still will collect at to get your answers. Your equipment and the ABV of what is in your boiler will impact the ABV out, and this can only be learned by doing a run on your equipment and measuring your output. To be really accurate, you should always cut off your run at the same point, which I do by measuring ABV off the still at the end of a run and stopping when that values is at 10% (usually). Once you know these things, you can calculate with accuracy what your yield will be on most any run. The Calcs page on the HD parent site contain calculators that will help you do the math. I use RADs calc page for doing this math.

Cuts yield: As said earlier, the amount you keep will depend partially on what you are making and your personal tastes. For me, I end up keeping roughly 45-55% of what I collectfrom a spirit run.

Hope this helps. Otis

Duck Hunter - this might also assist. When running your still aim to get 300 mils product every 15 minutes from your beer keg. This is just over a liter per hour. This should represent a reasonable rate of product flow. JD
