Is this sh!t addictive or what?
After 5 yrs and seein many folks come and go, it seems I've got the HD bug as much as ever.
My days are full, as my nights, but can't seem to shake it.
Howz all those guys moose, jimbo, ole moon whiskey, and many others just basically cold turkey quit postn.
Especially after quick post building?
Got what they wanted? Got silly mad? Run outa experience to post about? Thinkn they're to good to post? Just plain ole quit from insecurity? Excuses like work, school, kids, heck y'all had that all when y'all was ratchet postn.
Some moved to other less valuable sites, what? outa spite? See ya later, hope your happy.
Bettn they're still lurking and gleaning good hard earned info here tho.
See you alligators later, the strong survive, the week and weary get back on the porch..And stay.
Not me...Got a HD jones, sorta like a basketball jones, just without the basketball.
I lice all y'all.
Good, informative fun.

In agreement with posting becoming somewhat of an addition.. somewhat meaning you want to help out, only to find that most don't want help, they want it done for them.. so once you realize that, posting slow down..
There's some really nice recipes such as the Buckwheat, Mocha Porter, which I have made.. in the future, I have the grain bill ready for making hopped whiskeys..

If you're hooked on recipes, get Darek Bell's book Alt Whiskeys and try some of the recipes in there..fizzix wrote:I'm hooked on all the recipes.

Re: Is this sh!t addictive or what?
I'm addicted to the whole thing, all of HD.
For me it's the ultimate hobby. Engineering, metal crafting, electrical, chemistry, biology, recipes, challenging, detailed, endless and completely unique in most circles. Backed up by knowledgeable, inventive often bonkers community here online.
The only risk I run is ending up with more product than I could ever drink or share my closest friends.
Even when I try to walk away it's an itch I have to scratch.

No where else is there the number of talented, intelligent folks as the membership number here.

Yes, I think I already have mentioned it somewhere, Distillarchy would be the best system.

Not to mention the aura and respect of the clandestine distiller. In today's world, s/he researches, finances, builds, supplies and operates a forbidden apparatus for the precious and life-nourishing results it produces. But in days gone by, so many of us here would have been happily huddled around the family still, surrounded by the windy, bone-chilling winters of say, northern scotland, for the sheer love of the drop amid the necessary will to avoid detection.Expat wrote:I'm addicted to the whole thing, all of HD.

Re: Is this sh!t addictive or what?
I read the moonshiners manual when I was 12 yo and it took me what about 35yrs to go to the next step but ever since then I've wanted to and I'm glad I've done it... I want a bigger boiler and a flute and a mash/ferment/thump and a smaller alembic and I need to finish my ccvm but my little 13g simple pot still certainly works too so maybe i'm gtg
next run I make I'm going to experiment with the long and slow heat up and leaving it @ 135* for a while just for fun before strippin that bitch and makin her drip drip drip drip all down my funnel and up into the collection vessel... I was thinking I could just run it hard and fast but nooooo - I'm gonna have to slow that shit down and see how she rolls...
Cheers!

Presient sounds boring. We need something more provocating like "Führer" or "Great Chairman" or "Grand Mufti".Expat wrote:Odin for president?der wo wrote:Yes, I think I already have mentioned it somewhere, Distillarchy would be the best system.
Perhaps UJ? Or corene? Or both? Odin could lead the war ministry (he has the best weapons). Tater would be a strong leader of the police department against the reactionary teetotalism of the opposition.

In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.

I don't post much, plenty of people that know a LOT more than me that would be better to answer things. But I read practically everything, seen people come and go, and love going through the recipes and trying them out. Even if I don't like it, someone will drink it, I like to call that stuff "son-in-law booze"
People say that I'm a bad influence. I say the world's already f#cked -- I'm just adding to it.
Re: Is this sh!t addictive or what?
I dove nuts deep into this forum like the first time I got some poonany.
Was stillin for years doing sugarheads with corn and crap and thought I knew a thing or three. I got here and learned 100 things I never thought I'd need to know.
Now I experiment, make my usual, play with mead, but stillin is what my passion is and want to someday make it a reality of owning a business with a tasting room and show people what a real drink tastes like.
Thanks to all the former, present and future stillers out there. I'm pleased to be able to give what was given to me.

Re: Is this sh!t addictive or what?
I was ready to throw in the towel four years ago...MY HEALTH. I was drinking what I considered "Moderately" with a good "bender" once or twice a month. That has all changed. I went 22 months without a drink. I'm still here on HD, out of spite, I'm still on the green side of the dirt...I refuse to give it up completely. (HD & Booze) But there are changes...no more benders, I can't remember the last time I was "Shitfaced" it was years ago. "Moderate" now is three beers and a small glass of something good, only one night a week. I had to lose a lot of weight and start to exercise. It is only a matter of time and this jig will be up.I wont leave without saying good by, unless I just drop dead. Moose did say farewell before he quite. As for the other sites I've looked and wasn't impressed...I don't see the point of leaving here and going there...unless it because no one "over-there" has heard any of our B.S. A couple a former HD's came to verbal blows and where "asked to leave" by the Mods...(No loss there - there were some real "Tools") As for me, I try to keep my nose clean, and stay friendly to everyone. I'll keep making and drinking as long as "the good Lord lets me"and then I'd better be going "UP" because there are no condensers in "Hell" or so I'm told....

Like dihydrogen oxide...it the right quantity, it's deadly. One of the most dangerous forms is salinated dihydrogen oxide...countless thousands have died accidentally inhaling this substance.
