Hi folks thank you for the advice

I went to a local brewery and am swapping 2 venison salami for a keg this afternoon.
I also found out my sister in law just began to date a plumber so I will be giving him a shopping list of copper firms etc and then he can teach me to braze up the rest of it.
Looks like the rough start on here is getting smoother.

That 10 gallon stock pot looks like pretty good quality.....

But valve for money I think an old beer keg is hard to beat plus 50L capacity is a good size for hobby, you will end up wanting that size anyways. “Guaranteed”

i started with a 3 gallon....went to 5 gallon....now i am looking for bigger....the guys suggest 50-55 Gallon but i just dont have the time.....but i would like to go to a 10 gallon for now...that's CAN Gallons

So my 7 day tubro mix that I began this thread with is still bubbling 11 days later. .
Guess that's a good thing.
Copper supplier letting me down so off to scrap yard for the bigger diameter stuff.

I got the valve out of my keg today and cleaned it oUT worth hot water, dish soap and a length of chain. .

Screwed valve back in and let the kids roll it around the yard for a bit.

Just letting you know I have not quit

I've never used turdbro, but I wouldn't guess if it was a good thing, I'd check it with a hydrometer to find out for sure .
That said, it's only sacrificial, (I hope), and you haven't finished the still yet, so it shouldn't really matter how bad it is as long as it has some alcohol.

If you have to travel any distance to the scrappie, check when the copper gets collected, or for if they have a suitable stash put aside. Going out of your way to see an empty bin isn't ideal.

Well I got all the copper finally, but due to a very busy weekend I will not get this still made this week.
I did however get 2 more fermenting vessels last night, so I am going to use the turdbro as a scarificial wash, as suggested and agreed on earlier.
My first drink wash will be the cornflakes wash that is in the tried and true recipes. I will get this going on friday so it has a week to do its thing, then I can do my first real run in about 10 days or so.

To say I am excited is an understatement
