upgrading question with numbers even

Post by BillyPrefect »

My original build is just fine, and it works. It's really lame.
I have found a pony keg online near me, inexpensive enough that I can buy it with out having my wife serve me papers.
My current still is a 20L crock pot, that I fitted an 8L bowl to, that leads to a 24" long piece of 2" copper. I have another maybe 16" long piece of 2" copper kicking about, couple of holes in it, but I can plug those with solder or patches or something, I think.
I'm wondering if a 7.5 gallon pony keg could be turned into a boka if I soldered the 16" onto the 24". I am thinking small 8" double wound coil if I can make it go, and maybe even keep the liebig arm ?

Sorry. Current is the pot and bowl, stainless, leading to the segment of copper. I soldered on a 3/4" joint to a cap on that, that leads to a union, that leads to a liebig arm that is 1/2" by about 42" long with 36" of 3/4" sleeve for cooling.

If I add the 16" (rough guess, 16" maybe be an over estimate, and it could be as little as 12") segment to the 24"... with an 8" double coil...

Copper costs so much up here, and I have to hit up one of the 3 or 4 plumbers around me for cut offs to get 2" copper.

Looking for reviews.
I'm planning on buying the pony keg, and going to maybe a pair of 1500w electric elements, but would like to also look at a boka if it is possible with the copper I have, plus buying 12' of 1/4" to make the condenser.
just messing with buckets and steel and copper.
