no shit right? I dont know how he pulls that off. Thats $400 worth of raspberries at the best price around here now. And he needs to make a profit, and distribution and bottles/labels/taxes soak up 80% of that cost. Its a mystery Ive wondered about for years. He must be getting raspberries for 0.10 a lb otherwise the numbers just dont add up.

Randy, youre about the same climate as me. Plant a Montmorency. They grow fast and are very prolific.

I'd love to put in 2 of those and a rainier. Looking up my options now.

haha, addictive this shit isint it, I just spent my lunch break researching raspberries. Gonna put two 25' rows in next spring. Boyne (early) and Heritage (everbearing/fall). Pretty good prices here http://www.noursefarms.com/category/raspberry-plants/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

Time to add some Framboise to the lineup! I made some raspberry wine once, but I ... um...added sugar. I know, I know.

ASK HIM! Hell most people with fruit curse the day they planted them or curse whoever planted them before they moved in. Us hooch making knuckleheads obviously LOVE's us some mother natures sugary goody's to ferment and distill and get likkered up offa, but most people aint like us.

Cherries around these parts (zone 5) are a late June - early July crop, then they done.

I'd like to try raspberries but it's not high on my list right now. In the past I have picked a few in the parks I frequent but blackberries are much more prolific. I was hoping to do a blackberry Eau de Vie this year but as the summer is progressing apples and pears are once again taking priority. Some day I will have enough cherries to get a nice kirsh too but people with cherry trees around here are less likely to give them up than apples so apples it is until I get my own trees big enough.

Hey Jimbo, how'd the 2 plate run go?

I am envious! I guess I need to get some real cherry trees in this fall.

2 plate run went fine. I tried like hell to find a difference between the 2 runs, glasses side by side. It might be a little cleaner but all the cherry and almond flavor Im looking for in these is still there. If you handed me a glass I dont think I could tell you which run it came from. I do think I got a better yield overall with 1 more plate condensing the ends.

Bumping this OOOOOLD ass thread; I just mashed in last weekend a cherry wash:

1 gal tart cherry concentrate (probably montgomery and raniers)
.25 gal black cherry concentrate
1 gal blueberry backset (didn't add flavor much, but contributing a deeper 'berry' note to round the cherries)
1.5 gal 100% natural black cherry juice
10 cans black cherries in syrup (including syrup, it's not pie filling, it's like if you got peaches or pineapple in their own juice, just sweetened w corn syrup)
.5 gal water
2 packs 1122 at 64F ferment

The flavor is amazing and I think it's actually done fermenting, it's very still and flavorful wine right now. My question here was mentioned earlier in the thread...

I'm going to buy some fresh cherries to contribute the pits, and also add to the pot their flesh since they float, for the cook.

For a 5 gal wash, how many pits should I use/add to pot in order to get the almond flavor but be safe??
I read, I write, I still.

Hey! Watch who youre calling an OOOOOLD ass!

5g of cherry wash is about 12 trillion pits when I attack the cherry tree. So I wouldnt worry about 'over pitting' it, if that's your concern.

wasn't going to count everything out, so I found out that about 80 cherries makes a pound, and then I weighed out 80 pits and did the math....

ok so maybe not 12 trillion pits. Sounds like about 3200 pits by MCH's math.

Shit! I think I will be adding some bitter almond oil to my wash, and more in thump charge.

na, I wouldnt worry about it. Not sure the almonds make that big of difference? Or at least Id have NO idea how much bitter almond oil equals 3200 pits, so you'd be guessing and possible fornicating up the whole works. As a general rule Im against adding flavorings to an otherwise all natural dealio.
