Something isn't adding up here w/ panty dropper...

I'm making a first-time panty dropper. So soaked the berries in 75%, drained, sugared all good.

Now it says to add the syrup to taste, and then proof down to 40%, ok, hey WAIT A SEC. Won't the proof hydrometer's reading be off since we already dumped in a bunch of sugar? Do I proof down volumetrically instead (estimating by volume)?

I once drank half a bottle and I didn't get laid, so I reallly don't get what this is all about. All of that aside if you want to proof a sugar laced spirit you need to do one of 2 things. You can get close by doing the math of what was the proof of the alcohol I dumped I to the mix, in that case you estimate what the fruit soaked up.

If you want it exactly you bench still it. Take a sample distill it and take that proof. Lots of fun.
