Should I run it?

Post by T-Pee »

Hey, all! Been a while since I posted hobby-wise but I've got an issue I'd like y'all's opinion on.

Four years ago (and then some) I made a 10 gallon rum wash out of mexican piloncillo, Grandma's molasses from the store and some basic Costco yeast. You heard me right...over FIVE years ago with a house move in between. It's been sitting in a closet in an unused bedroom putting off some really interesting odors ever since. SWMBO finally put her foot down flatly stating that since the grandkids were coming to stay for a couple of weeks and the stuff could be potentially dangerous she wanted it out of the house and quite frankly I can't blame her. Here's where it gets interesting.

I took the stuff outside and decided to at least take a peek in the Igloo cooler it was residing in. After appropriately arming myself with a gas mask and my trusty .45, I cracked the lid. Honestly, I half expected the Creature From The Black Lagoon to slither out and choke me to death but it didn't happen. I figured there was at least a foot of weird alien goo on the surface but there was none of that either. What I found was a rich-smelling black liquid all settled out and looking like it was saying, "Well there you are. Whereinell have you been?"

I haven't run anything in all that time and the question I pose to you all is, should I run it or not and why either way?
Similar questions have been asked but the longest time I have seen on the board over the years has been a lapse of MAYBE a year or so. I kinda want to do it just to see if it'll make something actually drinkable or just stink the place up. The fact that I might break a record of some sort kinda appeals to me too. Go figure.
