Insulating the column with silicon baking mats

I am assembling my first still. I have a modular StillDragon steel 2" still. The column is composed of 2 50cm elements (on top of that, a glass element, the dephlegmator, the bend).

I am considering materials to insulate the column. I see most people use pipe insulation. I have some problems with that because the temperature range is very near 100°C and also because the trademarks I see (Armaflex, Armacell, Reflectix, kflex) refer to more than one product.

I am seriously considering buying some silicon baking mat. They are supposed to stand up to 200 °C and more. They should also be intrinsically very good insulators, considering that the same material is used for pot holders, oven mitts.

It's 50 cm high. That would fit well my column elements. I could keep it on the column by fasteners: no glue, no adhesive tapes.

Some similar material is very cheap, but is shipped from China and the wait can be long (can't wait)

Just look for "silicon baking mat" or "silicon table mat", "silicon place mat".

Is this a valid idea, and a valid insulating material?

I would gladly collect opinions before I make the order.
