ga flatwoods wrote:It has been a long day. As I sit in my recliner relaxing, Truckinbutch lies in his motorhome relaxing in the cool of his ac under the shade of my live oaks and within the perimeter of the protective custody of my three donkeys and three guineas. We have broken bread, laughed, slapped at horse flies, been sight seeing, introduced him to new friends old to me, shared stories of farming , work, ethics, history, moral decay of society, our mutual state of non-production, our appreciation of the dying arts, and the like of a good drink distilled with pride after careful scrutiny of every step from grain selection to collection speeds and proper cuts. I have shown things common to me here and told of histories past and of things to come. I am very lucky to live in this country, state, county, road and I hope that sharing it has not come across braggardly. It pleases me greatly to show these things and see the appreciation of others given the opportunity to share them. Truckinbutch and I have been discussing his visit for more than three years. I am proud that he and his wife were able to make it down here to visit. In writing this I can tell you all that there are friendships formed within these pages that transcends time, space, and distance. It is my sincere hope that many of you are United through the use of the pages and the practice of the craft like Truckinbutch and I have finally been. To make the bonds I feel like we have you have to give up a little bit more of yourself than you may find comfortable in these forums. There are ways around the transparency of the open forum to make these connections you know. Messages, emails, and telephone calls work best. There are all sorts of people here these days. Some you will not like through their attitude and mannerisms with the written pros. It is this ame way you will be able to determine the character of a person. But, be warned! Sometimes words do not render a true picture but one as seen as a reflection on water. Well for the record folks I can hereby swear and affirm that the one known as Truckinbutch is as genuine as it gets. He is every bit the man and character I expected him, and his SOH, to be! I cannot be more proud to call him friend as much as any other I may give the namesake. Believe me that the contents of himself shared herein only scratch the surface of the man. By these words, I proclaim that at the end of my days if asked I will say that Truckinbutch was my friend!
I say all this to bring credit to this site and its members. If so I spired to do so, take the chance to meet someone herein. Go to a group meeting if you get the chance. Closer at home, there are those folks alone that would love to have someone to share their life experiences with. Be bold, go forth, and share some of yourself. We as a society do not socialize enought anymore. The world has but a few Truckinbutches, find yours. I call the original friend!

Solid as a fat lighter knot,

Georgia Flatwoods
It was with extreme regret that we placed Flatwoods' place in our rear view mirror . Went to visit an acquaintance and found a friend . In all our travels , SOH and I have never been treated more royally and taken in so lovingly . We got back to the home farm today and are planning for when we can make the trip again .
Thank you , my friend for such a wonderful visit . TB

Wow, no posts here since June 16th, Seems like a pretty dry spell for sure. I brought along a bit of brandy to share if anybody is interested.

What brings me here today requires a bit of a back story. My son and his girlfriend just moved back to the rainy Northwest after a year of so in the dessert. He has been having some health issues and having trouble walking and seeing and has been spending more than his fair share of time in ICU. This condition that doctors have yet been unable to identify leaves him unable to work and at times unable to walk so they are living on her income alone. Around here there is no such thing as affordable housing but my wife somehow managed to get a super deal on a 3 bedroom mobile home that comes with park rent of only $650 a month, which is less than half of what a small 1 bedroom apartment would cost. The only catch was it was in the process of being remodeled and we needed to finish that before they could move in. As a result we have been so busy getting this thing ready that I haven't had time to do anything with fruit.

So far We have replaced living room, dining room and Kitchen windows, new sub floor, new flooring in the kitchen after replacing 12 feet of the kitchen wall, floor joists and sill, new drywall in the living room, dining room and kitchen. The previous owner has already done the bedrooms . Today I began the last major thing which was the bathroom. I got everything out of it and found it in pretty good shape but it still needed new sub floors since the old ones were just a big series of repairs. So everything came out, including the toilet. When I took the toilet out I set it on the front porch to drain all the water out while I cut the new subfloor.

My son has good days and bad but today he was having a good day so he was helping with other things that needed done and came outside for a smoke break while I was cutting plywood for the new subfloor. That's when I looked up and got this sudden feeling of Deja Vu, which is unusual for me because I usually get a feeling of Vuja De, which is the strange feeling that none of this crap has happened before, but this was definitely Deja Vu. So I had to take a picture to show you guys although I must note my wife insisted I distort his face so you can't recognize him.

So tell me does this seem familiar to anyone?

The toilet is legend around here

However, the distortion you put on him makes him remind me of sloth, from the goonie. Just saying.

Well , Fuck a mule !
Ben gearing up for me and SRD to go to S3:19 . He ben whompin up some brew and I ben curin an smokin some meat for vittilin up the gatherin . Just to take a little burden offen Jed ; who's hostin this year .
Anyhow (Gotta plug Arkansas Tom , what toled me this segue ) , we got this Aussie Shepard rescue dog whats been my buddy for nigh on 16 years and she's ben gettin senile in the last year or so .
Psychotic breaks where she jumps out of a dead sleep to snap at the first thing that moves in front of her .Been getting progressively worse in spite of medication . This has the most loving dog we have ever had to all people and young children in particular .
We have a 3yr old rescue Blue Heeler that she has been a mentor to until recently . With these psych breaks she has become more aggressive toward her 'little sister'.
Tonight was the worst . SOH gave them their evening treat and the old dog inhaled , as usual , and the little dog curled up behind SOH(Mommy) to savor her's .
So , the Aussie tore into the living room and attacked her and SOH over the treat . I mean , a SERIOUS attack ! They was both being bit .
Enter the 'HERO' . For a crippled up 'Old Fart' I can move pretty fast when SOH is at risk .
Dove into the middle of the dog fight and got total control of the 50# aggressor before anyone else bled and headed for the door to let her out until she regained her wits .
Fuckin old crippled legs gave out on me on the way to the door and I faceplanted on "The Liar's Bench" , the real deal , no lie . Maintained control of the dog without injuring her and got her settled down .
Any how , I got lips that look like what I would have expected on a Sunday morning 50 years ago and "The Bench" is blooded .
Something that has never happened at an S3 gathering .
And now we have to consider putting down a long time friend . We can't risk her attacking grandchildren .
Been an interesting evening .

Tough decision to make but ya gotta put family safety first especially with big dogs. My sister had to make that nasty choice about a decade back with her beloved ridge back mastif wolf hound cross, he just got to aggressive as he got older and was to big to allow that. I saw that dog grab a horse by the neck and pull him to the ground so the potential for danger was there. One of my good friend's granddaughter was mauled to death by a large family pet so I have little patience for dogs once they start to get nasty. That said I know your dog and what it means to you so I'm sorry to hear things have gone this way. My parents had a kelpie blue heeler that started as my dog as a pup and it recently took ill, the vet had her knocked out when they found she was riddled with cancer and had to make that hard decision not to wake her up, she was obviously in pain. That was a couple of months back but when Mum and Dad rang so say they had to put Cheyenne down it was a big kick in the guts for me as it had only been at work with her maybe 10 days earlier.
Sux dogs can't match us in years sometimes, someone once said dogs need less time as it takes folks 40 years to learn to difference between love and respect and dogs are just born knowing that stuff.

Thanks guys . It means a lot . Difficult call to make . After I made the post it became evident that I dislodged a short rib as well .
SRD and I got the motor home lined up today to go to Jed's and I sliced 5# of freshly cured and smoked bacon . Got baked beans going in the smoker as I type .
It'll be allright . Dislocated a shoulder the night before I was supposed to go fishin with BayouShine last year . Managed 3 great days fishin with him .
This , too , will pass .

Family drama over the settlement of my Father's estate has kept me from setting a ferment or lighting a fire for over a year . Their bitterness is their own cross to bear .
I can afford to buy bottled in bond until this passes .
I just don't post as much here because if I'm not active ; I feel that I should keep quiet .
At 69 yrs old , I have had many wonderful pets . Sadly , they don't live as long as we hope to . I've hardened myself over the years to the point that I can make these decisions . Ya don't have to like doing what you have to do ; but , you still have that obligation to do the right thing .

Sorry to read about your dog, Truckinbutch. It always feels like the loss of a familymember.

A good friend had a small dog of about 18 (!) years old and it clearly was at the end of its days. I had to keep him up by his tail to help him do his doings.
When she finally got the courage to ask the vet to end his life, he clearly felt relieved and was grateful, that she put him out of his misery.

Sorry to hear about your aussie TB. That is such a hard decision to make. I had to put my aussie down about 10 years ago. It really hurts deep inside. Still haven't replaced her, but the boy has a couple of good dogs to play with so all is good.
Yes it is hard to post when you haven't been active. I have been a bit lax as well but since this is the Liar's bench thought I would come here this evening and share a drink with old friends. Here's to ya fellers!

Any y'all country enough to have had a travelin preacher ?
These preachers had several churches in their charges . Most were impoverished and the protocal was that the preacher would get fed and stay the night with one of the families in the charge at the end of the day .
Reverend Bascome led a late service at our little country church and it fell to our lot to take him home , feed him , and give him lodging for the night .
We did that ......
It fell to my lot to share my bed with him that night .
We got on opposite sides of the bed and Reverend Bascome got on his knees on his side of the bed at the same time I got on my knees on my side .
We finished about the same time and crawled under the covers and he blew out the coal oil light .
I layed there for a while , studying the situation , and my 9 year old mind just had to know :
"Preacher , what did you do over there when you knelt down beside the bed ?"
"Well , I guess the same thing that you did , Butch ."
"Preacher ......"
"Yes , Butch ?"
"You gonna catch HELL in the morning because the pot is on my side !
I hope a few of ya are cultured enough to appreciate one of those defining moments in my life .
Any y'all got your own preacher stories ?

Turns out I just do have a few but rather than start with the ones I copped a strapping for I might ease into some that got a few laughs. As a kid I had a few mishaps that landed me in hospital and I would get the usual visits, family, friends, pastor and police  . So as it happened this time it was a broke bone just below the knee in a not skiing skiing accident that is a story to its own of freakish rotten luck. As it happens while in hospital a certain Lutheran pastor came calling. Pastor Unger and he was a pastor of them "other" Lutherans we all called Missouri Lutherans, he was a younger fella which I was not use to and he came and talked for a good while. This fella showed me a word play "YY U R YY U B I S C U R YY 4 me , took me awhile and lulled me into a sense of trust do I took his note pad drew a cross , drew a circle half mast its arms and at each point a circle with a circle in it . Took him a good while to ask what it was when I said it's four Mexicans pissing in a bucket, right at the time it dawned on me this was a pastor he burst out laughing til he nearly choked and a I let him have it with all the rough side of town jokes a 12 year old might know and had him in tears. Some time latter I told my Grandma about that and she reckon them Missouri Lutherans figured they had one foot in heaven and he woulda never heard such jokes before. Grandma was telling me how naughty I was while taking off her specks to wipe her laughing eyes. I might not beat all those so righteous folk he preach to to heaven but I'd wager he remembers me before some of em

I was here but now I'm gone.
No one was here so I drank alone.
Cold as hell, no fire to back up to.
Didn't build one, was no use too.
Everyone so busy, no time to share.
We sit at home and go no where.
Watch ole FB, You Tube, or fake news.
No time for friends, or even church pews.
How foolish we are, and ask ourself
"Wth is wrong with the world today?"
Don't worry about it. Keep sitting on your ass.
This world, like your life, too soon shall pass!
