Acrylic triclamp end caps... yes or no
I've been going round and round about adding sight glasses to a build I'm working on when I came across these
https://www.brewershardware.com/2-tri-c ... ory_id=279
Would this be a viable option for a sight glass? If so, would they fog up and be useless anyway?
I'm going to be using a fill port in both the pot and the thumper. So, I'm wondering if I could use these caps as the way to look inside. If the acrylic won't hold up to the product / vapor or the heat then I'll go with a regular end cap but, if I can go this route it would be nice.

Got it. Acrylic is a plastic and there for a no go. Thank you for the quick reply.
Re: Acrylic triclamp end caps... yes or no
Your title asks and was answered. You do know that acrylic is plastic and the rule is clear. Also your impression that is strictly prohibited is only your impression. We don't condone stupid use of glass i.e. in line jars as thumpers. Pyrex type sight glass is available and used with confidence.
Re: Acrylic triclamp end caps... yes or no
I'll be honest when I came across those caps, I didn't think about acrylic being a type of plastic. And your are correct it says that in the rules. I do apologize for that.
That makes sense about the pyrex.

You couple wrap it in Teflon tape but that kind of defeats the purpose....

A plastic racking cane is great for beer, but becomes brittle and shatters after a few uses to transfer high proof spirits. Guess how I found out? This rule really is for your safety.

I bought a 3" borosilicate sight glass lens from Still Dragon and it was like $6 with shipping. Wrapped the edges in ptfe tape and it works great.

I have always used manufacturers data when wanting material safety advice. Count yourself lucky. Nowadays, that info is easily available online and Uncle Google will find it for you. Thirty years ago, I had to wheedle that sort of info out of the suppliers to the industry I was involved in.
Re: Acrylic triclamp end caps... yes or no
Thanks everyone. When I was doing a search for acrylic use on this sight I wondered why nothing was coming up. Didn't even
think about acrylic being a type of plastic. Honestly a bit embarrassed for my original question.

Eh don’t worry about it, I ask stupid questions all the time and your question wasn’t even stupid - on the contrary it was really important. If you couldn’t easily find info on ‘acrylic’ that keyword needed a little conversation. All the fabricating and recipe development on this site is great but IMO the most important service of this forum is driving home the importance of safety.

No big thing
You would have figured it out, when the hot alcohol vapor hit the plastic
These might work
