Becoming a kiwi - help me

Post by hstuurman »

Several years ago me and my family started thinking about emigration to New Zealand. Last fall we visited beautiful NZ for orientation and job hunting.
Finding the job is the hardest part, even more now we are back in The Netherlands. But I need a job to get a visa.

So thinking what ways I could go, I thought about all the kiwi’s on Home Distiller. Maybe one of these can help me.
I’m a Dutch civil engineer with 28 years experience in drafting, designing and supervision of civil structures, roadworks and sewerage.

Beside this educated experience I’m also a distiller, with a few years professional experience. So maybe a small craft distiller is in need of a hand, or a great recipe….

When someone can help me and my family make our dream come true, you will make us a very happy family.

BTW, only 22% of NZ is habitable, unlike Holland, where a 320m hill is the highest point :D

Many of the 'headlines' in our 'news' services lately have been about overload in places that were once beautiful, isolated, pieces of paradise, but have become over-visited and polluted with urine, faeces and suntan lotion, the surrounding bush scattered with cans and bottles and toilet paper, the news services being partly responsible by advertising these 'secret spots' for click bait. Many of the fabulous places I used to visit often, I now avoid unless it's bad weather in winter, just to get away from the crowds. Two of my favourite spots have recently been gated so that nobody can get to them, even in winter.

Ah yes. The freedom of locked gates to the nicest places. We now have that here as well.

That's ridiculous. I was surprised by all the public free toilets. Even on a beach like Cathedral Cove there is a toilet. And rubbish is something you can keep with you till you find a litter.
But a lot of people don't mind the environment, it is a shame. :(

Ok .. I’m a Kiwi .. west coast born and breed . ... Be a Tidy Kiwi was the mantra we were bought up with and it still sticks with me to this day .

Now I live in Ausssie but my folk live in NZ and they constantly tell me the tails that NZChris mentions of tourists shitting and polluting our beautiful country . ... yes it is true ... too many campervans and not enough public toilets .... got to wonder who’s fault that is :ewink:

There are a lot of shits out there ... but there are also a lot of really nice folk too .
Not every one that wants to move to NZ intends to take a dump where they shouldn’t

However ..... NZChris is correct ... there may be a shit load of land ( pun intended ) but unless you like living on a baron mountain top , its not all statistically fun times .

Hstuuman , I hope you make it to NZ , its a top place . .... and there is enough room there for someone that has the drive that you have .
BTW , there’s plenty of good land below the snow :ewink:

"Trade me" jobs might be worth a go, don't know if you checked it out while you were here - https://www.trademe.co.nz/jobs/engineer ... structural, It could also be worthwhile following up the recruitment companies advertising there, eg https://franklinsmithgroup.co.nz/.. I guess you're already familiar with https://www.immigration.govt.nz/ ?? We certainly seem to have a skills shortage in construction related areas so that may help!
Good luck! :)
