I'm curious if it's just me or not but I find 1 gallon (3 or 4 liters) of black strap molasses per 20 liters just to overwhelming on the pallet to me which is what many of the recipes on this forum use. I've since cut down to 1/3 gallon after clearing it and still find it to strong. I redistilled my last 10 gallon batch a 3rd time (2 spirit runs) to knock down some of the molasses flavor a bit more.
I will say this, I'm really liking what I have now but my next batch in progress is using 1/4 gallon of black strap per 5 gallon batch and I'll see how that turns out.
I'm using Tractor Supply Blackstrap (ferments fine)
It blows me away how some of you can use so much of it. With 1 gallon to me it taste like I'm drinking molasses with a bit of alcohol in it but with the 1/3 gallon mix, it's alcohol with a strong molasses flavor.
Am I an odd ball that finds a gallon of BS too much per 5 gallon?
