Post by scmoose »

Where is the best place to look for 2" copper tubing to build a pot still?

I'm 99% sure I've seen 10' lengths at home depot/lowes. Shorter lengths can be had from a few different sites, including distilling sites and plumbing supply sites. You can get some really unique fittings from places like supplyhouse.com so if you want to get it all in one place, you can just get smaller length from them or plumbingsupply.com or similar.

I'm not always hunting for a crazy deal when I'm on a build so some might chime in with cheaper ideas. To that end I've scrapped lead recently and the scrapper showed me their massive stash of copper that had been scrapped and that they were selling by weight, so you might check places like that too. If you only need some <12" lengths of pipe, those might be trash to a lot of plumbers (just guessing, I can't back that up with facts).

Depending where you are living will give the best answers. Scrappers can be good in some areas. Look down a plumbing shop scrap bin can work too. Depends where you are.

I buy mine by weight at a scrappy. Sometimes his copper bin looks like a kitset still to me.

Check out some of the plumbing supply houses for damaged pipe that's where I got my piece from. It wasn't scrap prices but it was brand new and I got it at cost.
