I have made a mistake...

Post by Jmark »

And now I need to know if it can be salvaged.

I distilled a couple gallons of 187 proof neutral that didn't taste like crap. Yay me. Then in a fit of what can only be described as idiocy, I stored it in a plastic container that apparently wasn't good for storing 187 proof anything. Now it all tastes like plastic.

Can this be redistilled and salvaged, or is it all trash now?

Ooooooh nooooo! I doubt that redistilling it will get rid of the dissolved plastics. Even diluting it down to rerun won’t “heal” your mistake. Shucks.... it’s “firestarter” or fuel for your mower.

I avoid plastics as much as possible, but I must admit I will use it to store my heads/tails, when watered down to less than 30%.
I'm sorry for your lost, such a waste.

Damn. Was hoping for a different answer, although this is what I was expecting. What a painful learning experience lol.

Share your lesson with others....so they don’t learn the hard way too.

Always be safe, responsible, and discrete.

What was said to Jmark, apply to heads and tails storage, unless it is less than 15% or so..

I will take good note of this, I thought 30% would be sufficient, since many liquors come in plastic bottles.

Sorry, Jmark. Such a harsh lesson.
