I think I am gonna try, as per NzChris, making the four runs, discarding around 30ml foreshot for each run, then take my alcohol meter and collect hearts until my run produces 40% ABV and discard the rest ....

That isn't what I recommended. I'm saying to run until the whole take from each stripping run is 40% then turning the still off. When stripping, I put my alcometer in the collection jug and only take my ABV readings from there.

The lack of copper in an Airstill is not a good thing, so add some copper to the boiler to help get rid of stinky sulfides. I have a loose ball of copper wire for this. Use whatever you've got, but don't use anything that sits flat on the bottom, as it could cause popping and banging during the run.

Bare in mind that I've never actually done a full charge spirit run in mine. I suppose I should, just to see how it goes.

Your electrician would probably have some discarded copper wire.
If it has plastic covering you can strip that off.

my husband found some electrical wire and he stripped it for me so I now have 2 meters of copper wire. Yes!!!

Actually, this makes things crystal clear and to the best of my knowledge with everything out there I have read this will be my best option with the air still so thanks for that. I have printed out a copy and am referring to it over again before starting my runs.

I thinks I am pretty much set to go through a stripping run and then a spirit run on the air stiller. I hoping for the best but I now see if I am going to continue this hobby, best to get a quality stiller. I have to say I am so intrigued by all this!!

I have 100L of birdwatches here that has just fermented out.

I am waiting for some welding supplies to arrive but I think I'll have to wait out the quarantine to pick up some argon to put together my reflex still.

Will the batch be ok sitting there for a month or so or should I slowly put it through my little pot still 15L at a time?

I often leave it sit for a few months, so as long as it is still sterile, I'd imagine you'll be fine.

If you are in lockdown with buggerall else to do, strip it. It's only seven small runs. You could do a spirit run with narrow cuts to make something drinkable or usable for flavored projects, gin etc..

Day nine and Birdwatcher's sugar wash is still burping in the fermenting pail. Let see what tomorrow brings.

Day 12 and still burping but more slowly, maybe every 5 to 6 seconds. Again, I have no hydrometer. The taste is very different now. It is much more sour and I do taste alcohol believe it or not. There is still some, not too much sweetness but more overpowered by a sour dry alcohol taste. My ph tester reads about 6.25. I really do not see any bubble with the naked eye however. There is a faint pink color on my somewhat cloudy wash. I think it may be time to pull out the stethoscope.

Any comments, suggestions or advice regarding the fermentation process and whether or not it is complete???
