New to forum. Had idea recently and wondering if other have though of, or tried idea to smoking mask water on smoker of choice before mashing the water. I had the idea coming from Christmas drinking that I made with smoked water ice cubes. I smoked 1/2 gal of water for 1 hour on my traeger grill, and then made ice cubes. They carried MUCH MUCH more smoke flavor forward than I expected.
My thought would be like 1 gal of 5 gal mash could be smoked water of choice. This could be a alternative to attempting to source peated and smoked grains that are not always "cheap" side or even just easy to come by sometimes.
I did "smoke" dried corn and grains once to make a scotch. I had pretty good results, but I also used 1 lb of peated malt. The grains picked up the smoke, but not nearly as much as the water side of things in my mind.
