New member intro

Post by Whoanow1 »

Hi all,
I am very new to home distillation, so new I don't have a still yet. I have made beer and wine a couple of times but that's it. I am in South Tennessee near Alabama border. I am torn between purchasing or home build a still. I look forward to all the knowledge I hope to gain from this forum.
Thanks,

Welcome to HD. Take your time look around before you pull the trigger. Home making stills help the learning curve and give a sense on self pride. Take care.

Welcome, do lots of reading before you decide which type of Still but I wouldn't recommend a ccvm. This type of still will give you the best of both worlds a pot still and a reflux. It's super easy to build even if you have limited experience soldering copper. Like I said do lots of reading I pay close attention to all the safety information provided.

I think Sailman is recommending a CCVM for refluxing. Building modular allows for easy switching between pot and reflux runs, as well as knowing what you want should you upgrade later. Like acfixer notes, pride and understanding comes with building your own rig

Thanks for the advice, I was hoping to find a modular set and the CCVM looks like the ticket.

Welcome. Modular is the way to go, especially if you plan to make different types of likker.
