Freaking mold!!!!

Post by Durhommer »

Ok so I just moved and I was unpacking my garage and I have 10 pound golden promise malt that had a corner of the bag covered in green mold I immediately ripped it off and sealed the bag back up it ended up being about 3 grams that had the mold.my question is can I still use this 25 dollars of grain or is it garbage. This was two days ago and no new growth is happening

It'll be fine for whisky, probably even for beer. If you are concerned, boil the wort after mashing.

I've never had good luck with mold. Always ends up with an off flavor that persists through multiple distillations.

My thoughts too I'll have to small batch it 5gallon and try for a wild ferment since my kids threw out my yeast and the grocers around here seem to be out

Exactly. It probably has a high moisture content now. If it smells and looks fresh I would use it and soon too.

When people tell me I'll regret that in the morning, I sleep till noon.

So I'm gonna batch in tonight after work with it as long as something catastrophic doesn't happen and while on lunch I'll read up on wild ferment and see where my best shot is
