My First Pot still build

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

My First Pot still build

I built this from a flat sheet of 1.2mm copper. I used an old wort chiller for the worm but it is not big enough (diameter). The gradient is also not even so i will get something better sorted. I have only done a test run with water. A couple of tiny leaks in the arm seam that I need to fix. I would like to add a thump keg that I can add fruit to but not sure what would be best to allow for easy cleaning. Holds about 25L comfortably so think I will need about a 8L thump vessel. New worm is going to be 12.7mm (5/8?) and be 15m long. Been chipping away at this for 2 years now so would be nice to run some booze off it. Pretty happy with the cap to pot fit. Will seal with paste. Thanks for looking.

Well done. More skills and patience than I have.
If in doubt leave it out.

Very nice! Isn't copper fun to work with? I finished my first copper pot still a couple of months back and am already thinking of building another one.

Very nice sheet metal work! I really like the traditional style copper.

Nice work. Where is the clean out located? (How do you fill and clean it out.). Does that top chamber slip on top of the boiler?

Hi Otis
The cap lifts off the pot to fill or clean out. Will just seal it with flour paste like they used to do. I got a pretty good fit as it is though.

Yes. Working with copper was fun. I had not done so before. I would used thinner gauge copper next time though as the 1.2mm stuff was excessively hard to bend but I got there in the end. It is pretty heavy and should last a while!

Cheers

Copper is great to work with....can't understand why anyone would want work with stainless steel if they had a choice.
