Still spirits air still

Post by Rod »

I am interested in buying a still spirits air still

I do not make a lot of spirits

about 5 litres at a time of fermented ingredients to get the spirit

using a small reflux still , which is nearing its useful life

mainly straight spirit and add the various essences with a bit of wood chips added

and Gin from straight alcohol and various herbs and spices

so far have not been able to find any reviews

time rich , money poor

have seen a small number of comments , but not enough to get a good review

I've had one for a couple of years now. Bought to add to my distilling museum more than for making likker.

If it was my only still and I was on the bones of my arse and time rich, I would ferment and distil using using large fermenters and keeping the fermenters and still busy all the time, four stripping runs per spirit run.

I would use very different numbers than what you see in that schematic. Far less greedy.

If you are going to run an Airstill I suggest you buy a cheap power controller to use with it, your going to need all of the help you can get.

With mine, I could easily control the element and leave the fan uncontrolled. I presume that they are all the same.

The lower the power , the less spirit leaving the still , and the less work the fan has to do to cool the spirit, would it really matter if the fan slowed a bit when you lowered the power?......within reason of course.

I've had three opportunities to experiment with that in the last week, but forgot every time :D I do have better stills.
