Hi all, first post here! Hopefully you can help me out and maybe save my life haha!
I'm currently making Gin by redistilling vodka from the bottle and have made loads of really successful blends however it's starting to get a bit costly. I'm about to create a library of individaul extracts to make it easier to improve my recipes and in an ideal world I would be able to buy a nice neutral alcohol however where I am that's not possible. For the moment I'm not interested in fermenting as I'd rather master one skill at a time!
In my search for a neutral alcohol i found some 96% ethanol (from sugar cane) that has been denatured with Propylene Glycol and is sold for use in the food industry. I had always thought that denatured meant toxic however Propylene Glycol is "GRAS" (unlike ethylene Glycol which is nasty!). Looking into this a bit further I found a paper describing the use of Propylene Glycol as a water solvent used in the distilation process to produce very pure ethanol.

Anyway. Do you think it's possible to water down the alcohol and then redistill it to leave the Propylene Glycol behind?
