My first attempt at distilling

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

My first attempt at distilling

Post by Dazza »

So here is my first attempt

2 x 2.95kg canned peaches in syrup preservative free
2 x 850g canned plums in syrup preservative free
500g raisins
2.5kg white sugar
And topped off with spring water to make 25L and mashed with a stick blender. I strained the mash through a pillowcase although a few rasins accidentally got into the boiler when the pillowcase slipped.

I had no way of measuring the weight due to couriers being delayed with packages and my hydrometer still on the way. I discarded the first 140ml and did the flame test to be sure it was burning pure blue.
