Experience use "RUM" base spirit for GIN? with an Air Water distiller

Post by ChemMan »

Want to think about making Gin, Was thinking of using Air water distiller and some rum as a base spirit that I have had for a while that doesn't seem to me "moving" from the shelf. Might be not "DRY" enough for GIN, but wonder experience from others?

Also idea I had with Air distiller was to put it on still controller to lower the heat input, but might have to wire air fan separately? Again wonder if anyone has experience. I know the 700 watt will work from heat input standpoint, but not sure it will be slow enough, but then again using spirits already that are good starting point with "heads" only.

The little water distillers are so cheap on amazon and the ability to make my own distilled water for dilution has lead me in this direction.

Ideas, comments and critical issues all welcome please.

If this works out, it a very nice and simple way to make "fresh" GIn with variable recipes that we all know can be played with to match our tastes, and more importantly the Wife's as well for summer enjoyment. Couple liters at a time, and simple.
