Here's mine. The lid cost £13 delivered from Ali express, and I took the column from a previous pressure cooker set up.
On my 1st stripping run and it works very well.
Is there enough copper?or should I add some to the boiler?

Your amount of copper is good. Any amount of plastic that distillate comes in direct contact with is discouraged by HD.

My humble contribution. Excuse the mess in the background. The shop was a mess last week when it got here.

Lots of the pictures sit sideways.
Is there an easy solution or could a mod turn them around?

On a PC, the picture can be opened in Paint, resized and saved as a new JPEG prior to posting to the forums.

Is that better Geoff ?
Unfortunately there is no easy buttons for Mods to flip pics .We have to copy them to our phone or PC , rotate and save Using photo editing app or software , then edit original post , delete all attachments and then reattach .

We certainly try our best to keep on track of it but sometimes we miss a few .

It would be easier if folk taking pics do it with the phone on its side , they then post correctly . Its when folk take pics on phones upright that we have the problem .

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. Consider the following image:
chichibu_gallery_04.jpg
This is successful because the intent of the image was to include all of the elements you see. The array of fermenters in the foreground lead the eye to the main event, the Chichibu pot still and condenser in background. If a homedistiller, wishing to to capture just an image of his still simply rotates his phone to orient horizontally, he ends up with an image like this:
.
chichibu_gallery_04 copy 3.jpeg
It's readily noticeable that the image is cluttered with unnecessary items that distract from the focal point that is the still.
chichibu_gallery_04 copy.jpg
Looking at the images distillers post of their rigs, the overwhelming majority of them are oriented vertically because stills are inherently taller than they are wide:

and

As much as the admins would like all of the images to appear in their proper orientation, they do not have the inclination nor the time to fix all of the 'horizontals'. As such, it is the responsibility of the originator to 'proofread' his post and correct any horizontal pics himself.

This is easily accomplished using a photo editor or image preview tool to rotate the horizontal image into a vertical orientation prior to submitting. Like having to contribute an intro post prior to being able to ask the forum's advice, this function should already be understood and fluent when posting a pic. This would be a common courtesy requiring but a few minutes to research, really.

I meant me. If I hold my phone horizontal, and crop the picture BEFORE I post it. It should post in the proper orientation? I went through my last thread and edited many of the posts to correcorientation. I'll be keeping that in mind from here on out.

Okay, if I send a photo I will take the picture holding the phone horizontal.
Then crop it and send it.
Then I will check to see of the picture is upright in the forum,
and hope it is right.

 Thanks Twisted

Never used to be such an issue with the old forum version . Folk had to resize pics before unloading and it was easy to rotate them at the same time.

With the new forum version , you just attach your pic straight off the phone and it auto resizes . Shame it doesn’t auto rotate .

But yeah , ultimately its up to the poster to sort it out . I agree that most still pics are vertical . My suggestion to hold camera horizontal was aimed at those that can’t be bothered with dealing with it themselves .

And thanks Deplorable for going back and sorting yours out ... much appreciated .

Just a note about that last six plate column foto. If you run it with less than six plates there’s going to be problems with the parrot or the shotgun hitting the keg. I was admiring the beauty of it then realized that there should be some different fittings at the top to accommodate this. I guess you could always add a couple 2” 45* elbows with TC fittings but I’d like to run it as a two plater.

Cheers!

It's not that I can't be bothered, I'm unsure how to do it.

Though I sent my first text message a few months ago. Big achievement.
My first venture into phones was a wind-up party line at Granpas,
and my first venture into IT was a crystal set.
Though we listened to Granpa's car-battery radio. They played 'Hearts of Oak' to introduce the news, I have worked out that that was because the Second World War was being fought at the time.

Cheers Deplorable,

It’s leftover underlay/underfloor insulation from laying a laminate floor. It works great, looks good and as a bonus it cost me nothing :D

JBs, That's a pretty tidy setup! How tall is the column at takeoff and at the top? What ABV do you get out of it? What kind of packing? Looks like two elements - Whatcha firing it with?

The questions never end lol.

Cheers,

@Jonnys_Spirit,

Thanks mate

It’s 52” from the top of the boiler to the lowest point of the take off on the T. There’s 40 inches of copper packing in the column (which is copper too) 10 x ( fairly tight rolls of 5M lengths of copper mesh. Then there’s a 6” spool section on top of the T to house the RC.
It’s powered with 2 x 3000 watt elements

Azeotrope can easily be achieved but with a tried, tested and proven (by me) recipe I usually run a bit faster at about 94- 95% as I’ve got absolutely no patience :D

Updated Arrangement:
20200913_004424.jpg
4" column with VM takeoff to a 1.5" Inner Diameter liebig.
Both reflux and product condenser can handle up to 9kw each, providing plenty of knock down power when used in tandem during a run.

Rebuilding my still.

Using the old small still as a whisky helmet on top of a bigger boiler.

Old still.
PSX_20200916_130625.jpg
Cut off bottom and soldered a 5" ferrule on. End plate and voila, operational small still.
PSX_20200916_130703.jpg
Mount it on a bigger boiler and ...

My old trusty offset head still. I'm looking into replacing the 2" column with a 3" boka style and increasing the heating capacity.
