My brother and i spent so much time setting up, plumbing the condensers, straining the grain out with the mesh paint strainer and mop wringer method, etc for the first run of our 3" ccvm 4 plate bubbler that the 13 gallons corn mash we put in the boiler settled.
There was alot of reconfiguring and first time setup stuff to do, Had to trim all new vinyl lines and add in a tee etc, then We lost a crucial fitting and had to search up and down for it which all added to the time betwixt charging the still and putting fire under it. Also forgot the handful of copper fittings and pieces we usually put in the boiler which could have helped agitate things. Tried to give her a good shake but ultimately it probably sat for a good 2 to 3 hours.
We noticed it making more noise than usual right off the bat, which i assume was sludge bubbling. We were heating at an unusually low flame compared to.our normal pot/thump runs as i was worried about a scorch, since the thought of the corn settling did cross my mind. 1.5 hours later the top of the keg was just getting hot and the sight glasses started filling with smoke. Soon as that happened we killed it, broke down, wiffed the boiler and oh my lord, everyone says how much a scorch stank but i didnt imagine it was like quaffing down the gas from satans ass after he ate taco bell that he found in a dumpster. Yuck.
Mop wringer method. Win
scorching. Loss
Ccvm run to be reattempted.
A pic from Before attaching the takeoff arm^
Off to bed now, gotta get the chains out to clean the keg later.
First time using the mop wringer method, first ccvm run, first scorch.
