I have been running a 2" column with a modular (tri-clamps) 2" Boka head.
I want to increase my production rate, so I am looking to switch out to a 3" column now that I have a 16 gallon boiler with up to 6500w of power from an element. 4" is not really reasonable as I am a little limited on how tall I can make the column.
I am considering a LM/VM combo (boka and gate valve) as like the idea of compressing heads early, and then transitioning in to the faster and easier VM that will help with tails separations. I have everything already to make the LM/VM head combo in 2" (The boka, tee, reflux condenser, sight glass, etc).
While I know if is POSSIBLE and have read how others have done a 2" reflux head over a 3" column, I wonder if it is "best"? By best I mean purity and the quickest collection rate.
While cost is a consideration, I am ok spending a little extra if there are any benefits to keeping everything 3" until after the Tee.
I hope this make sense. I've read related questions but the answer seem to say it is possible then tend to go down the direction of what size valve or Tee and don't really address if there is any impact of keeping everything vertical on the column and head at 3".
Thanks in advance for your input.
