My first still - 50 litre keg pot still
Not sure if I can say I built this, more like I acquired the parts and put them together... but I’m fully stoked and can’t wait to get it up and running!! 50 litre keg with kegland 2200w weldless element, ebay column and liebig condenser. Only run with water so far, as just after collecting the first couple of drips I noticed a leak from the element so I shut it off, pretty sure I’ve fixed it now though (had it too tight I think) but ran out of time before I could get onto a cleaning / sacrificial run. I’ve also made the hose longer between the condenser and the taps as they were kinking from the weight of the tap! And the thermometer proved as useless as expected... I argued with the bloke at my local brew shop who insisted it was necessary, and then argued with the bloke at the plumbing shop who also insisted it was necessary
So I put one in just in case, but it read 35 degrees celsius the whole time, even as I was collecting water from the output. Should have trusted what I read here instead. I reckon I got better feedback just from holding my hand on the column as it warmed up
so anyway I’ve just plugged the thermometer hole. Also waiting on a 4000w kegland power controller for the element. Any other adjustments I should make to this setup before I get into my first run? Anything I’ve missed? Cheers
