Active yeast will always help. It's when you don't have a very active ferment that you can get caught out.

An insulation jacket around the fermenter helps a ton and i find that for example, packing blankets on top really go a long way to preventing heat loss. I’d recommend taking some measurements with the insulation too.

I ferment in 30 gallon blue barrels and am wondering aquarium heater or house insulation wrapped around the barrel

In cold weather I sit the fermenters on something insulating them from the cold floor.
And tuck them in old blankets.

Don't know if this fits into this thread, but I'll throw my two bits in.... I've done the aquarium heater in a 5 gallon pail as a heater... it was OK... I did it that way quite a few times. Last week's wash was a sugar wash, and I did the following. Inverted a 2.5 gallon pail, cut a hole in the bottom of it, and threaded a light through it... balanced it nicely on the top of the wash -- kind of like a lampshade.... Worked like a dream! Next weekend will run it through the still.....
They say, "you are what you eat"... Then I'm fast, easy and cheap!

My Brute is wrapped in 2 layers of Reflectix, and a surplus army banket around that. A 2nd wool blanket is folded in fourths over the lid. A single seed germination mat taped to the side and hooked in an inkbird has been effective at maintaining the temp of this mash once it got past the initial heat from the yeast activity.
Fear and ridicule are the tactics of weak-minded cowards and tyrants who have no other leadership talent from which to draw in order to persuade.

I got my glass vase through the post today.
A belated update. I purchased a total of three glass tubes/vases.
I have now completed several successful runs with this setup. It works perfectly, keeps my
fermentation's at a steady 26 deg C
