Hi all,
I have been playing around with gin for a while and enjoying the results. Usually i just chuck the stillage rather than redistill it, however the otherday I thought I would test its strength and store it to redistill later.
From a 18.75l 40% single shot boiler charge, I stop the run after collecting 7.55l at 77.4%. Stillage results in 10.55l @ 9.0% after straining out the botanicals. Does the alcohol content of the stillage seem about right as I seem to be losing a fair few litres of alcohol (LAL) each run. I was expecting litres in to be pretty close to litres out. No leaks that I am aware of. T500 boiler with copper alembic head.
In boiler 7.51 LALs
Collected spirit 5.84 LALs
Stillage 0.9 LALs
Discrepancy/Loss 0.72 LALs
Cheers,
Danger
