Keeping the SOH Happy

Post by Oldvine Zin »

So since my industry is dead and haven't worked a real job since last March I've been spending most of my time doing home repairs that should of been done 30 years ago, painting and interior wood trim installation. Well the SOH stated that she always wanted rain chains instead of the down spouts, checked out the prices of them and found out that a 10 foot section will set you back 150$ for the cheap ones.
\
She said well with all that copper that you claim to make, make it happen. so ...

I love going out and watching the rain chain when a big shower hits. They are beautiful. :-).

Weight is an issue for sure, so be sure your gutter is secured well.

Inspired by my rain chain I made a few fine copper spirit chains for use on my RC to direct reflux past my VM port & thermometer and to center liquid reflux on my packing.

It's solid wire and not so thick, US measurements is 8 gauge about 1/8 " thick, wrapped around a 1 " copper tube gives me about 3' of chain per 12' of wire. At the big box store 50' cost me $22.
Just finished the first 13' chain now 5 more to go, what we will do to keep her happy.

Got chains in front of the house where they are on view..

They do look a hell of a lot better than plastic pipes.

So if the chains got her started she says what about those scraps of marble that have sitting on our bathtub edge for all these years, how about making it a shelf, a hidden hanging one. WTF ! Starting to think about it and think I could make it cool. Two broken scraps that I found at the scrap yard many years ago that matched marble on the bathroom floor so what the hell.
So doing a epoxy resin joint at the broken seam

as the first step

More later

OVZ,
Very nice work. And I really dont need the wife to see your projects. Because instead of building that new reflux still, I'll be using the copper to make rain chains.

Simple Lil' Pot Still, no temp guage, no carbon, no scrubbers, nuthin' fancy. Sometimes use a thumper, sometimes don't.

Ha Ha good thing that I already have more than enough stills and parts ( never thought I would ever say that) but if something new came around I could still build it. Good to keep her happy in the mean time :)

Just finished the shelf, didn't turn out as nice as the picture in my mind but still OK.

Next project.... Well so far during this Covid crap I've finished a lot of woodworking finish work that should of been finished 30 years ago, painted the exterior of the house, made rain chains, and made this shelf, I think that a big ferment of Honey Bear Bourbon is in order.

So we live in what I thought was a safe from crime neighborhood, hell I would often go for days without locking the doors, that changed a couple of days ago. The neighbor two houses away from my home had his basement window smashed open in broad daylight and the punks made off with bunch of musical instruments and electronics. This happened while they were upstairs eating breakfast. Oh when they called 911 while this was happening the were told that that the Seattle police would not be able to respond due to the fears on Covid 19.

Well we have a few basement windows that would be easy to breach so the SOH asked for window bars. Looked online and didn't like any of them and all of our windows are nonstandard sizes so... another project :x
bars.JPG
Got the first one installed today, 3/4" horizontals and 1/2" verticals cement filled copper pipe. 1/4"x4" security lags for the attachment points.

Hopefully when the crackheads show up to steal the copper the noise will wake me up in time to unlock the 9mm

Stay safe everyone
