FIAB

Post by PoppaW »

Ferment in a bag. I am going to try it. I can easily use a bag to mash and convert my sugars. Then leave the bag in and ferment open top. May have to make a tripod to lift the grain bag out and let it drain.

Anyone else try this?

I've done it for some wines. Can't remember if I distilled the wine or drank it. I think it worked out...

A container is the same as another as long as it is for food and is resistant to ph and weight. The only drawback is the fragility.

My biggest concern was 20-22 lbs of grain in the bag. My second concern was flow of yeast to eat the sugar. I would assume they go right through the bag.
Thinking about it. If I tie the bag up and just drain the fermenter it would fill a bucket over night. Easier than lifting the bag. The other thread talked about cleaning the bag. Same as I do now. Thorough rinse to get the bits out and dip it in boiling water to kill the little guys making a home in it. Or maybe let them grow for more flavour. Maybe not.
